Critical issues and relationships that a company must face to develop an activity in an international framework by Alice Covelli
Ms Alice Covelli, graduating in Language, Civilisation and Science of Language at Università Cà Foscari, in Venice, has completed her thesis in International Relations. She has developed the topic “critical issues and relationships that a company must face to develop an activity in an international framework“. She chose an A.M.I.C.A. client to structure and found her report. Focus has been given to a publicity Agency operating in underdeveloped countries. Her thesis underlines the importance of communication as the main instrument of dissemination and control and explains the critical issues to operate in an international framework.
To her end, research has been carried out in several fields to highlight the work carried out by the Agency, that works internationally with major international magazines, banks, different currencies, freelancers from all over the world, and health insurance companies.
Firstly, it was explained how the work of the Agency is carried out and through which solutions the company can give international visibility to companies located in developing countries. Some solutions are consulting activities, video production, press campaigns, radio advertising, mobile marketing, events etc. All the possible solutions that the Agency offers its customers are designed considering the specific needs of each one.
Secondly, it was analysed the context in which the Agencya works and its registered location. Having to deal with developing countries daily, it was compelled to establish its legal seat in an area well-connected to international circuits and practical in relations with third-world countries. For these reasons, among others, the Mauritius Islands were chosen as the legal seat of the company. The second chapter explained what a “Tax Haven” is, what types of companies can be established in Mauritius, and the Tax Agreements currently in force between the Mauritius Islands and other states.
Thirdly, her report considered contemporary issues in international banking. The intermediary banks’ risk is blocking the flow of money; therefore, the operator must rely on large stable banks to avoid financial problems and take advantage of reliable international bank systems. Another aspect to consider is the anti-money laundering legislation in force; the Mauritius Islands are considered a major global financial centre that pays attention not to behave illegally not to lose their good reputation.
Another chapter focused on the currency risks that a company can encounter when operating in an international framework. Mass Media Agencies deal daily with valuable currencies, such as US Dollar, and less valuable currency in use in emerging countries. Third world countries are not used to prepaid electronic cards nor modern bank tokens.
Last, but not least, Ms covelli explained the perils of freelancers recruited by Agencies working in underdeveloped countries. The widespread diseases in those countries are still relevant; health care that freelancers may receive in African Hospitals is not comparable to the medical treatment offered by Western Hospitals. Therefore, the Agency must offer its freelancers reliable health insurance.
The client chosen was an emblematic example of a company working in an international framework. It promotes international relations: it develops its business abroad, relies on banks that operate internationally, hires freelancers from all over the world, and addresses publishers of significant impact. It uses widespread distribution channels and, finally, operates with foreign currencies.
The research carried out reflects social, political, and economic aspects of developing countries, and highlights the difficulties that a company can face daily by working in an international framework. Very often, growing a project requires knowledge, assistance, and small everyday acts of courage.
Congratulations, Ms Alice Covelli. Well done!!
